Family secrets, forbidden desire, and ghosts of our past...
Ibsen's scandalous play "Ghosts" was entitled "Gengangere" in the original Danish for its double meaning not only of "ones who return" but also "events that repeat themselves." This second meaning is particularly relevant in a play where the protagonists struggle to break free of convention and where past events inevitably mark the future.
A scathing commentary on 19th century societal values, the play caused a furor when it opened. The themes, however, are timeless, touching on morality, hypocrisy, reputation, sacrifice and sense of duty - even to one's own detriment. How much free will do we really have? Or does the past chart our future?
Opening night patrons are invited to share a glass of bubbly with the cast and crew after the show!
